Day 2: July 9 contd..
s

GurupournimaIt was then the turn of the newly consecrated Peetathipathi Sri Subba Rao to address the gathering, and he gave a short and warm speech, in simple Telugu. He explained the rnam (debt) we owe to the Guru, and emphasised the need for unconditional acceptance of one’s Guru. He entreated one and all to spread the glory of Devipuram, and to take the lack of man power which Guruji had mentioned in his speech seriously, and volunteer at least 10 days of service in Devipuram each year.

With the consecration ceremony concluded, the evening was spent in a lighter vein.
Sri Kesava Sarma organized a quiz on the Devimahatmayam at the Kamakhya Peetam. Later in the evening, Guruji distributed prizes to the winners. Video films on Manidweepam, the Merus of Devipuram, the proposed Sri Villa and Nature at Devipuram were then screened. The last one in particular – a silent photomontage
of casual pictures taken at Devipuram by Sri Prasad was particularly evocative, and concluded with the graceful feet
of Guruji walking in slow motion.

Day 3: July 10

GurupournamiOn the third day, the devotees gathered in the morning at the site for Sri Villa, the multi complex facility planned at Devipuram which will consist of time share cottages, and a kalyana mantapam, and is intended to meet a long felt need for accommodations at Devipuram. The shankha sthapana ceremony for the facility was performed by the ritviks. The shankha was a foot long wooden piece with a four-sided cross-section at the bottom, representing Brahma, an eight sided midsection representing the ashta aisvarya pradaya Vishnu, and a smooth curved top representing the infinite faces of Rudra.

The shanka was placed in a pit on a copper Gayatri yantra at the bottom which was energised by Gayatri mantra and Ganapati mantras. Twenty one Ganapati tarpanas were performed during the shanka puja, A pit was dug and after puja to the shankha it was placed in the pit , along with navaratna and precious stones. After Guruji and Amma did puja to the shankha in the pit, grains soaked in milk were strewn over it and coconuts broken by every one assembled.

For the evening, the celebrations shifted to the Kalabharati auditorium at Vizag. A fusion music program “Shadjamam,
C# and Rock” was conducted by veena vidhushi Smt. Madhuri Devi with Sri Mahesh Narayanan on the lead guitar and
key board, ghatam and konnakhol by Dr. Ravindra Tejasvi, mridangam by Sri M.Sridhar and drums by Sri Praveen David. The program was enjoyed by one and all.

Day 4: July 11

GurupournimaFinally, it was Guru Purnima day. The main event was the pada puja for Guruji and Amma, organised at the Mugguru Ammayi Sannadhi at the ground level of the temple. Smt. and Sri Subba Rao offered pada puja to Guruji and Amma, while Khadgamala
and Guru Namavali were chanted by all assembled. After the ceremony, Guruji briefly addressed the congregation. His main message to everyone was “Satyam vada”: to speak what one feels, to have courage and faith in oneself and to avoid telling untruth. He also explained the benefits accrued by keeping a yantra in the home. Everyone assembled then queued up to get Guruji and Amma’s blessings on this auspicious day, while others broke into impromptu kirtanas and devotional songs. A sumptous lunch followed.

The program on the final evening was again held at the Kalabharati Auditorum in Vizag. After an initial screening of videos of the proposed Sri Villa and Manidweepam, there were a series of official launches – among them, Devipuram fashions, Devipuram Sriyantras, Kadambari the e-magazine of Devipuram, and “VOSAK”, an IN-CHI Technologies initiative for the animation industry.
And thus Gurupurnima 2006 drew to a close!
